Knowing how to profit from your craft Thanks to Pablo Picasso

Was just told about the Pablo Picasso story creating a drawing for a fan in merely minutes and then asking for the equivalent of $500,000 in dollars today. She was offended and said but why would I ever pay that much when it took you only minutes to do? The answer was that it's not the time it takes to do something it's the skills behind being able to do so and that is what you pay for said the Spanish Artist. It took me 30 years to refine my craft and that is what you are paying for.

This is no difference than the plumber who comes to your house to fix your Air Conditioner and takes a look at the machine, asks for a hammer, bangs the machine once and fixes the issue and asks for $1000. Knowing how to use that hammer and the skills behind your craft are whats valuable.

The most important day of your life but to me it was Tuesday

Below is a clip which is coined as one of the best quotes ever from one of the worst movies ever. Street Fighter where M. Bison talks about his incoherence to Chung Liu's most fateful day. In the scene above "I'm sorry I don't remember any of it.. You don't remember. For you the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life but to me it was Tuesday." This is such a relevant quote because of things that are crazy in many people's eyes are just another day for somebody else. Tuesday in this case..

Failure is Critical

“If you already know it's going to work, it's not an experiment, and only through experimentation can you get real invention. The most important inventions come from trial and error with lots of failure, and the failure is critical, and it's also embarrassing.” – Jeff Bezos

Bezos may be talking about the Amazon Fire Phone that came out in September of 2014 and didn't sell at all (literally I think the total sold is less than 1,000), which from the outside, was considered an embarrassing failure for the company but true entrepreneurs take chances, learn, and adapt. If you look at the other chances he took then you may think he's a genius for the successes such as the creation of the ever so popular Amazon Echo, and dozens of innovations that made the  original company named Cadabra Inc. but was changed to Amazon in 1996 as the first major online bookseller and today one of the biggest companies of all time.

Startups fail all the time. Obsess over your clients and fail fast according to Bezos.

Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Mark Zuckerberg just announced today on Facebook an amazing announcement about their hiring of Dr. Cori Bargmann. The goal is to cure all diseases in our children's lifetime. Arnold Schwarzenegger (No way I spelled that right without auto correct) chimed in and said it best and we all should take note: "life is all about what we give, not what we make".

Using your power for good and to continiously make the world a better place starting at such a young age is what sets the CZ initiative apart from so many others who have amassed wealth at a young age but did not act either till much later in life or not at all. This is inspiring and one of the many reasons why a recent poll came out that placed Zuck at the top for millennial inspirations.

Just be a good person - Richart Ruddie

Had one of the nicest compliments this past weekend. A new friend said "Chart do you know why I like you?"

"At the end of the day you're just a genuine person Richart Ruddie"

You're not looking for anything from anybody, you are just here to be happy and have a good time and if you can facilitate others to be happy as well then you do your part to ensure all others around you are happy.

I was telling a new friend as we shared a Lyft into the city about this interaction and he noted that it's great that you can showcase this without trying and others notice. In life I've blogged about making it and then mattering. I strive to reach a pinnacle and a second part of my life where I can matter in making the world a better place and helping to solve initaitves that really matter.

That is why I appreciate the Chan Zuckerberg initiative

"We want every child to grow up in a better world. Our hopes for the future center on two ideas: advancing human potential and promoting equality."

Use your power for good and be genuine and stop wanting something from everybody around you and then you will have found peace in yourself to grow as a human.

Richart Ruddie - To Be Deeper With You

Ever have certain sayings that you want out of your vocabulary? Certain sayings may affect you negatively and you may not even notice it. For example saying "To be honest with you" might imply that you are not always being honest. Do you want to work with somebody who is not always honest? So I make a conscience effort to say something different and last night heard "To be deeper with you" as an alternative.

Other sayings to avoid: "I had a stressful day" avoid setting off these poisonous sayings that breed negativity and think positively.

Jamie Dimon on Africa Banking - Helping Future Generations

In Jamie Dimons October 19, 2015 interview with Bloomberg he talks about the future and bankings growing role in the importance of worldwide prosperity. On the Bloomberg interview he talks about the importance of ignoring and not worrying about quarterly earnings. Dimon is here for the longer term and even says well beyond his time here.

With 250,000 employees and 150 countries around the world Dimon says that its impossible to fight the U.S. Government and be dragged through the mud but he is so intelligent that he says he will never jeopardize his company for ego or for an indictment of some sorts. He has been an integral part of saving this countries banking system and obviously does not receive the credit from the U.S. government for all he has done. When you compare our financial situation to that of other countries.

Dimon also says "Im opening banks in Africa to help the next generation thinking long term and for the future. Africa is a place to bank multinationals going in. Not retail." Due to problems with government restrictions in Ghana they were unable to open a few years ago but are going back in now and corporate clients want JP Morgan chase in Africa. The governments remember that Chase helps finance large scale projects and can help a country grow and while his work is not going to directly benefit all of Africa this quarter or Chase shareholders next quarter it is for the future and that is whats so respectable.

Three Great Words

Simplify, strengthen, and improve.

Ron Bruder

Brookhill Group Founder and founder of EFE which stands for the Education for Employment. Bruder was just on CNBC and is the type of persona that we should all aim to achieve. From successful business ventures in many different fields ranging from Real Estate, Medicine, to Oil & Gas to a more noble cause once he was financially capable with the EFE.

Bruder has the right idea and over the long run we will see the successful outcome of his mission for increasing youth employment opportunities in the middle east & Africa. EFE creates public-private partnerships with employers to train children to develop enough skills to be placed for employment with a degree of desirability.

He was named to Times 100 most influential people in the world and for great reason. Hat tip to Ron Bruder.

I was very lucky in my life. Kids I meet in the Middle East have the same intellect and drive as I had, but don't have the same opportunities...We can make a radical difference to their lives. Once they have a job, they feel part of society. They can become a breadwinner and maybe support eight or nine people, including their siblings.
